Beyond the HortResearch trial

BirdScare has been used on commercial orchards over the last two seasons. At the end of last season ‘Mamaku Blue', blueberry growers of Rotorua, used it during their harvest period. Harry Frost, of Mamaku Blue says “I did not think it would work, but the birds all left, so we will be using it again, and suggesting it to our contract clients as well.”

This spring ‘BirdScare' was applied to 16 gold kiwifruit orchards to protect their sweet flowers from birds. All reports received back have been positive. Two applications 7 days apart provided the best results. Omahau Orchard reports where they had “some damage before we used it. After spraying – one application - no extra damage was noted.”

For other crops, it is suggested 2 applications are applied at 7 days intervals, then application spacing can be at 2-3 weekly intervals depending on the bird pressure.

Revolutionary Approach

BirdScare marks a significant development in homeopathic remedies being used in horticulture. For over 150 years homeopathic remedies have been used for human health, most notably by the British royal family, and more recently with animals in the NZ dairy industry. BirdScare uses the same principles. Specific herbs are used to create a bird ‘similar', which acts as a bird repellent, from the plants it is applied to.

BirdScare is ACVM exempt  and Bio-Gro exempt. The full HortResearch report and other product information, are available at their website, www.bdmax.co.nz

The application of Etherics 1000

Etherics 1000 should be sprayed a few days before every third or forth application.

Due the Etherics 1000 balancing effect, it can reduce the effectiveness of the specific product, so there is an advantage reapplying the specific remedy within two or three days of the Etherics 1000 application. It is best to not apply Etherics 1000 at the same time as the specific remedy

Etherics 1000 can be applied with any other spray application you are doing, such as BT, liquid fertilisers, Oils, compost teas etc.
